Name: Henry Patrick MacGrey
Age & Birthday: 17, May 16th
Bloodline: Muggle born
Year: 7
House: Hufflepuff
Personality: He’s what one would call a typical Hufflepuff, loyal to his friends and the house. He’s also a hard worker who spent endless hours to help a couple of Hufflepuff first years with their flying lessons in his fifth year. While Henry isn’t afraid to take flak for his friends, for Hufflepuff and even for Hogwarts there’s one thing that really freaks him out: women.
It’s not that he doesn’t like them and whenever he’s just interested in a normal friendship, things are just... normal. However, once he ends up being interested in a girl in a more romantic way, then things turn really hairy. He would rather kiss a Swedish Short-Snout than tell a girl he likes her. Obviously, he considers kissing a dragon to be less dangerous than facing the –possible- wrath of a girl.
As for the rest, Henry likes Quidditch and also likes to play it, but he has no dreams of becoming a professional. It’s just fun, nothing else. Also, one of the things that fascinate him most, are explorers and inventors and their history. Whether they were muggle or magic folk matters not. Amundsen and the race to the poles, Franklin and the Northwest Passage, the Quidditch pioneers, the list is endless.
Height: 6’
Hair:light brown
Eyes: brown
General Appearance: He’s rather tall and there are some girls who consider him to be rather handsome (though, since they are girls his approach to such a statement would result in a quick retreat or a row of stutter). For regular school days he’s, of course, wearing the Hufflepuff uniform. However, for more official occasions he’s been loathing dress robes ever since, and sticks to more “traditional” clothing. He’s a Scot, Scots wear kilts, end of story.
Wand: 12.5”, rowan, with unicorn hair core
Pet: a small, dark owl with attitude named Spoon
Worst Class(es): Charms, Divination
Best Class(es): Flying, Potions
Special Ability: none
Special Item: none
Special Position: Hufflepuff Quidditch team, keeper
History:
Henry was born in Glasglow and is thus a pure Scot. His family was a normal muggle family. His father, Angus, was a teacher for chemistry and physics at a local school, while his mother, Rebecca, used to be a nurse up until Henry’s birth. It was a family that had never brought out any witches or wizards before and it was certainly a surprise when young Henry began showing a couple of rather unusual talents. It didn’t take long, however, for his parents to realize that there was something strange going on, a suspicion that was eventually confirmed when a letter from Hogwarts arrived.
So young Henry was a member of a group that, officially, didn’t exist. Now that was quite a shock for the family. Though, his parents eventually managed to accept it. Especially his father was the one with the really open mind towards wizardry and witchcraft. Thus, when he was eleven, Henry enrolled at Hogwarts. But before getting on the Hogwarts Express he had to visit Diagon Alley with all its different shops. Of course, Henry didn’t go there by himself. Accompanied by his parents he picked the things he would need for his first year at school.
It was somewhat ironic that his father, who was a strong believer in science, compared the equipment for the potions class with his own tools.
When Henry finally arrived at Hogwarts for his first year, he, just like thousands before him, were sorted into his house, which would be his second family and home for the coming seven years. Herded into the large hall with the four large tables Henry waited for his turn to come. Eventually, when the boy was the one in line, the old Sorting Hat decided that putting Henry into Hufflepuff was a good idea.
Hufflepuff meant a slight change of life for the young student. However he was lucky, since it was, after all, Hufflepuff and not Slytherin. Certainly, as a muggle born he had to deal with harassment coming from the “Slyths” every now and then, but he soon learned that they were too absorbed into their own egos to be of any real importance. The fact that Hufflepuff, ultimately, didn’t stand alone and could rely on Ravenclaw and Gryffindor in times of need, definitely helped with this realization.
During the flying lessons in his first year, Henry showed some talent for the broom, which put him on the imaginary list of possible future additions of the captain of Hufflepuff’s Quidditch team. It was in his third year when Henry eventually joined the team, first as seeker, but then, once he really started to grow –in his fourth year- as a chaser and finally keeper.
His success at school was somewhat average. Certainly, he had no problems with potions or flying, but other things, such as divination (What the hell was that about anyway? Crystal balls? Reading tealeaves? What the?) or even charms put him utterly at a loss. In other lessons, such as DADA, he was usually just average. Though, it didn’t really matter. Henry had no dreams of becoming an auror or getting any other extremely important position inside the Ministry of Magic.
Again it was somewhat ironic that his father’s profession and knowledge, which Henry had grown up with so far, helped him coming to good terms with some of the pure blooded members of Ravenclaw, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Many of them were fascinated about the muggle way of life and most of them, including many teachers, didn’t know much about the muggle sciences called chemistry or physics. One of the things he really enjoyed explaining was how Muggles would fly. The concept of aeroplanes and balloons was certainly an odd thing for several pure bloods who knew no other world than the world of magic.
Henry eventually reached his seventh year. But outside, in the magic world, things were changing. It seemed that certain events from the recent past could possibly repeat themselves. Henry, however, just like many others, had no idea about the coming changes.
It should be noted that, throughout the past six years Henry had several good friendships with girls, mainly from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but never a girlfriend or anything else that would qualify as a romantic relationship.
