December 24th, 2011 4:34 pmSummer looked around before shoving the slip of parchment into the hole and wedging the brick back into place. She ran back down the stairs of the Astronomy Tower, wanting to get out of there before anybody else saw her. Lion,
Hey, so ... I should have told you at lunch, but I couldn't. Pandora's in Mungo's. Dunno what else to say. Didn't really want to see your emotional reactions. Don't even lie. You'd have gone emotional. You know it.
I dunno what to do.
Hey, so. Don't die or anything. Who else am I gonna plan awesome adventures with. Yeah yeah. I said they were awesome. Don't get an inflated head.

He hadn’t expected to find a letter the day before Christmas, much less at this time, but one glance at it let him know why it was in the usual place. Summer. It had to be. He had quickly stuffed it up his sleeve with his back still to his friends. His shoulders shoulder slightly as he spun around to conceal it better, pushing it further as the other boys reeled off some sort of conversation. What were they even talking about? Did it matter? He still didn’t think so by the time he finally got a chance to read it and send a reply back. Getting back into the Astronomy Tower had been easy without his lackeys, but he had to be careful not to be gone for too long. The last thing he wanted to deal with was a load of questions about some cryptic letter he wrote to some girl.
Serpent –
Thanks for giving me the heads up. No, I didn’t get emotional. Maybe a little. Not at all. What’s happening? Is she okay? What’s wrong? When will she be back, do you know? Sorry that I’m asking so many questions. I can see why you wouldn’t have wanted to tell me in person – so, yeah, apologies or whatever. I feel bad, even though it is definitely not my fault.
Don’t know what to do? Want to go get a butterbeer some time? Um, well, maybe we should come up with a new plan. Or something. I think Lyle is sending a package of stuff for Araelia with whatever gift he gave me. Which naturally means we should open it and take what we want. Unless he hexes it. He’s done that before.
I’ll try not to – can’t make any promises, hah.
Aw, that’s so cute! My ex-girlfriend’s kid sister thinks I’m awesome! You’re not so bad yourself, punk. Um. I guess just keep your chin up. Like that’ll be a problem, right? I’ll see you around. And I swear, you are lucky I didn’t get caught by my mates writing this. They would’ve thought it was a love letter or something like that. As if I write love letters. Losers. Anyways, stay not so bad and I’m sure things will get better.

December 25th, 2011 2:36 pmShe didn't expect him to write back so fast, but she was glad she checked before being rushed back to the common room. Summer still hadn't let on to her friends; they wouldn't have understood. So, she wrote the following note throughout the night and day and raced off to the Astronomy Tower as soon as she could. Kittycat,
I don't know. I guess I'll know more when Mother and Araelia owl me. I mean, I care, but at the same time, it's Pandora. She's self destructive got karma on her back. Callous of me, I know, but that's what I see.
KID SISTER!? I'm only a year younger than you. XP
Breakfast was a riot. Damn those owls scared me. You okay? Not hurt right? Not that I care or anything. I know Araelia would want to know. Sucks that we can't send or receive mail now. It's a CONSPIRACY! They want us to be isolated. I swear. I'm pretty sure Mother wanted to pull me out of school after Pandora's accident. Guess it won't happen now. Not that I'm happy or sad about it.
Bollocks. Writing notes is hard.
Doubtful about that butterbeer now. Maybe next time. Devious idea 'bout your bro's package breaking into what your bro's sending. I always wondered why I got neat things for Christmas tacked onto Araelia's stuff. Guess I have your brother to thank for that. Don't worry. If they're a hex, I'll jump in front of you. *snort* Ah, maybe not.
Haha. Love letters. If I caught you writing a love letter, I wouldn't believe it for a second. Getting caught solo at the Astronomy Tower is better gossip.
Omg. look. a super long note from me. ha. feel special.
See you in the halls. Summer [/i]

It took him a couple of days before he realized there was another note waiting for him, but he found it on the 27th. He felt guilty enough for not finding it sooner that there was a reply waiting within only an hour and a half of his discovery. He had half a mind to drop it off alone – surely, one of his mates would catch on. It took some convincing before he managed to get one of his prank friends to talk of making plans. They didn’t mean it, of course, and he probably wasn’t going to remember any of the ideas, but it was an excuse to be there.
Scales –
Callous? Well, somebody is pulling out those five Galleon words now, isn’t she?
Merlin, don’t even get me started on that entire morning. I don’t even know what to think. I didn’t get hurt, or too bloodied, or anything like that. And my bird is still alive, that’s a good thing, he’s alright. It was just so mad. The whole place just went barmy. I had to play the older brother role for a couple of younger kids after, though, once I wasn’t as frustrated with it. I mean, honestly, everyone just stood around with the corpse. What was that all about? It was like they were content with doing nothing. Though, I’m starting to get that vibe in general. Feels like there’s no one to really help us now. Was that too morbid? I mean, I got a letter from Lyle, what? A week ago? But I haven’t heard from him since.
Right, kind of in the same boat. I don’t think I could handle something quite so normal. Might be a bit odd, having to pretend like everything is all fine and dandy. I guess we’ll see. Not sure how much I’ll be around with everything that’s happening, some of the blokes who are still in the castle have been talking about just sticking to the Gryffindor Tower when we aren’t eating. Guess it rattled a lot of people.
Oh, come on. You may not believe it, but there are probably tons of girls who’d be clamoring over each other to have the charming, gorgeous Ryder O’Callaghan write them a love letter and hide it in the Astronomy Tower. Maybe not. But I’m still charming and gorgeous. I suppose you’re right – if they caught us trying to deliver notes, they’d have a tizzy. It might be funny, but I’m not really interested in finding out.
I can’t believe you write things like “omg.” Seems so stereotypically girly of you. ;-D

Summer found the letter the next day and carried it with her wherever she went, writing whenever there was a free moment. Her reply was surprisingly less snarky than her usual verbal remarks. She couldn't explain why, but it was a comfort to have someone to talk to, someone who, in the end, wouldn't completely judge her. Or at least, that was the vibe they had when they pulled pranks. Did it translate over into real life? That night, Summer wedged the paper under the brick and flew down the steps. She only told the girls she'd only be away for a moment, collecting some collateral from younger students in Hufflepuff. They'd be worried, even if they didn't show it. The last thought on her mind as she rounded the corner was, what exactly was she and Ryder? Paws,
I think we're getting better at the nicknames.
At least you're not hurt. Did I just write that? But listen, don't stay trapped in that tower all the time. Cabin fever does not a schemer like. You're useless to me if you're not mentally sharp. Not sure which is worse though. Being stuck in the skies or six feet under like me. Some of the girls are freaking out and I had to slap them silly. I could never play big sister as well as you bleeding lionhearts.
I guess we do have that in common. Decent loyalty to our houses. Is that a good thing?
It's called humor, Red. Besides, you drew a face using punctuation marks. I had to turn the paper sideways, thank you very much. Who does that anyway? Were you expecting me to turn my head sideways?
Charming and gorgeous? Try a self-absorbed Casanova. Ara's seen the damage you do. Not as bad as your friend Pierce, but still. I don't want to find out either. We wouldn't hear the end of it.
Listen, I heard a rumor that some kids want to band together, figure out what the frak is going on. Seems like there are some people who want to take the initiative. It isn't a Slyth who started it though. You in? I'll pass on the information if you want. Spread the word. Strength in numbers.
Cheers, Summer

It was far too early in the morning to be looking for a note, but as the sun slowly began to rise, he found himself pacing around the Common Room. After another several minutes, the morning after Summer had delivered her most recent note, he took off. He was going for a run, he'd tell anyone. It was daylight out, that was enough for him to mask his paranoia and dart up the steps of the Astronomy Tower. His reply came only an hour later, still before most of his peers were up. No questions that way. Besides, he really wanted to find out more about what was happening.
Sidewinder –
I guess you’re right. Besides, I come from the realm of chivalric bravery, surely I can handle it. I mean, none of my friends are dead. Not yet, at least. Merlin, if they saw that, they’d think I’d gone loony. I guess so long as everyone around sticks together, it won’t be so bad, right? Logically speaking? At least until someone figures out what the hell is going on here. I swear, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite like this. I thought it was a joke at first. Now, I’m not so sure.
I guess so – at least, in my house, it’s commendable. Yours’ might be a different story.
Hah! Did you honestly do that? No, I just assumed you’d be able to figure it out without having to turn it, kid. I mean, it’s in the same vein as “omg.” At least you’re still trying to make jokes. I feel like everyone else kind of stopped. This is all just a mess. I keep trying to keep light about it and everyone just stares. Just. Stares. Like I’ve just said the daftest thing they’ve ever heard. It’s pathetic, really. I guess everyone is worried about what’s happening and who’s going to be next and why nobody knows anything and if we’re really safe.
You’ve heard, too? I didn’t hear anything specific, just a bit of murmuring. What’s the scoop? My guess is that it’s not a Gryff, either, or I probably would know the details. Must’ve been a Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw, but it seems a little too much like breaking the rules for either of them. Guess someone finally got their head together, or decided that they needed to keep their mates safe. Whichever, I suppose.
But tell me what’s up.

So much more quicker than last time. Though, Summer had to wait a few more days, eve of new year's eve, to avoid suspicion. Bri and Lyd were questioning why she disappeared in the direction of the Astronomy Tower all the time. So, dead of night drop it was. Again. If it weren't for the fact that she sort of craved the correspondence, something she'd deny to the grave, she wouldn't have even bothered. But there it is. And there she was. Whiskers,
Ugh, don't make fun of me. Abbreviations of words are completely different from punctuation smiles.
Yeah, don't I know it. Why do you think I wanted us to do the Dare thing few days back? I need something . . . non-oppressive distracting to stay sane. Don't you dare go spreading around that little ol' Summer is mentally unstable. 'Cause I'm not. I just can't handle all the hiding and depression and gloom. It's annoying and suffocating. Stop, just stop. Almost knocked a kid out. So don't make fun of me.
But yeah. Found out it's some birdie who did it. Some birdie with parental influence, I think. Meeting's New Year morning. Early morning. Think you'll make it? Merlin, why do these people insist on morning meetings. Are they trying to kill us? Anyway, I might take Lyd and Bri with me. They want to know what's happening, even if the others don't. And I think they're afraid they're next. Are you?
Yeah, being civil. Think of it as a side affect of being paranoid and freaked out. Don't get used to it.
Summer

This one had taken longer for her to get to him, but Ryder didn’t blame her. He didn’t even bother to try and hide where he was going from anyone, grabbing one of his friends. When the other boy asked about the note, the look that the brunette gave him was enough to make him stop in his tracks. “Trying to do something to keep everything from falling apart, you git,” was all Ryder said in response, and David Monahan didn’t even ask who it was from. As such, it wasn’t particularly difficult to write back to Summer. He even had someone to go with him to deliver it.
Rattler –
Your secret is safe with me, kid. I won’t tell anyone that you’re on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. (I’m kidding. I really am. That’s what I do. I kid. Don’t get upset at me.) This whole thing is a nightmare. I mean, I was willing to bypass the lack of visible action so long as I could communicate with the outside world, but now I haven’t been getting any of the letters I know Lyle is trying to send. It’s really starting to get freaky here. Well, more so than the fact that people have been dying, at least.
Ravenclaw, cute. Figures, one of them would figure out that nothing is going on and try to come up with some sort of logical action. I’ll be there, but Merlin help me, if it’s a waste of time I will personally ensure whoever set it up gets a piece of my mind. I’ll probably drag Monahan. I think he nearly pissed himself Christmas morning and it’s just getting worse. (Pretty sure he has a younger sister who’s here for the holidays, too. Definitely not helping.) I think everyone is worried about being next, honestly. I mean, who wouldn’t? We don’t know why this is happening or if there’s a pattern, right? Just that they are.
I’ll keep on my toes to see if I can find anything else out.
What are we going to do if this kid backs out or something? For all I know, we could get in trouble. (Not that it’s ever stopped us, but this is serious business, not some little game.) I really don’t want to just sit around and pretend like nothing’s wrong.
