19. Nagual. Self. Seeker for the council. Ahkolay.
NICKNAMES: Tabora, Tabby, (family only: Cub, Kitten, Booger Brains)
D.O.B.: July 28, 1992
WAND: 14 in, Purple Heart wood, chupacabra tendon
PATRONUS: Jaguar
DESCRIPTION: Tabora has bronzed skin tattooed across the shoulders and neck with jaguar spots. Her eyes are nearly black, almond shaped, and quick to crinkle into a smile. Her hair is thick and dark brown, often worn in braids. Tabby has other tattoos on her arms, ribs, and legs of birds, a Quetzal dragon, and meandering paw prints. She bears scars on her neck and torso of various fights in jaguar shape but dismisses them as a dog attack if people outside of the culture ask. She keeps her nails trimmed short and utilitarian. She is five foot four and 120 pounds. Like a Garou, her eyes will change color when the Hunger runs strong in her. Tabora's eyes go green-gold when they change.
PLAY-BY: Q'Orianka Kilcher
MIRROR OF ERISED: She is torn between wanting to have fun and to be given more adult responsibilities
BOGGART: Losing control of her Hunger and being killed by her father
TRAITS:
Beat of a Different Drum: Tabora has her own rhythm in life. In one moment she can go from carefree to battle ready. In another instant she can laugh of an offense or insult as if it were the greatest joke in the world. Her self confidence and private reasons lead to a very disorienting ride as she jumps from mood to mood. She is very mercurial and inconsistent with the things she finds offensive.
Feline Grace: Tabby has the balance and poise of the jaguar even in human form. Her speedy reflexes allow her to land on her feet (most of the time), balance effortlessly (if she's not distracted), and maintain her poise no matter the precipice
Daring: Curiosity, they say, killed the cat, but Tabora maintains that if you're too afraid to go see, you do t deserve to know. What's it like to drive at two hundred miles an hour? What does it feel like to leap from one rooftop to the next ten stories up? What happens when you pick a fight with a biker gang? Tabby knows the answer to these questions and their kin.
Apex Predator:As a Nagual, Tabby is stronger than a human male, inhumanly fast, and prone to the Hunger. She knows what she is: a killer disguised in human flesh. She is therefore at ease in many situations where a human woman would be safety conscious. She comes across as arrogant; she feels she has the right to be so.
FAMILY:
• Father: Eagle Sunrise Hunter, Arturo, aged 47. Nagual Priest
• Mother: Blood on the Claws, Salia, aged 41, Nagual Priestess
• Sister: Calli, aged 16, Nagual Seeker
HISTORY: Tabora was born into the Mayan culture and raised among her like-aged cousins. Her youth was rough and tumble, especially after the night of the new moon after her fifth birthday. The darkness awoke in her a stirring hunger to prowl and dance in the darkness, to hunt and play and kill. Her first shift was violent and exquisite, leaving a Nagual cub to her first hunting lesson. The Months that went by had similar nocturnal outbursts, guided and trained by her parents. Under their tutelage, she learned to control her instincts, to hunt, and to walk the shadows between this world and the next.
Like many of her family members, the girl was found to bear the ability to use human magic. She inherited her grandmother's wand and interest in Charms, resulting in her focus on that subject, transfiguration, dark arts, and herbology during her magical education. She gleaned enough information from the other subjects for bare competency, but she preferred charms so she could "bend the world" to her whim.
At sixteen, she was cast out according to tradition. She left on the quarter waning moon and spent a dark and lonely month out in the dangers of the jungle. She was hunted by a true jaguar, whom she grappled to the death, nearly trapped and eaten by a python, and swarmed twice by soldier termites. Near the end of her month's stay, she received her spirit vision:
Ixtab, the Mayan goddess of honorable suicides, walked out from between two trees. She offered the Nagual young adult an easy way out of the war, trouble, famine, and disaster that was to come in life. The goddess spoke persuasively to the cub and entreated her with a soft journey. The Nagual refused, rather wanting to face challenge than to back away from hardship. From this the girl became woman, the nameless received a name. The goddess didn't succeed, and Tabora's true name would honor that personal struggle for the rest of her days.
She returned home at the end of the month, exhausted and wiser to life's battles. The coming of age ceremony was held and she shared her name with her extended family. As was tradition, she chose a human name to reveal to outsiders and for ease of use with humans. After all, who but a Nagual would understand the significance of Ixtab Did Not Succeed's name?
Tabora finished her magical studies, indulged in the privilege to get tattooed, and trained under the priests to perform the basic Mayan ceremonies. She witnessed the head priestess' vision and was called forward to seek the meaning. She accepted the honor and the right to choose a companion for what could be a lifelong journey. She chose her sister, fresh from the Trial, to accompany her on the journey. The pair have set out, driving north and east, to see what they may find.
ANYTHING ELSE? Tabby likes to break the law. Carjacking, credit card fraud, speeding…it's all a game to her.
