HILDA ELISE PREWETT
84. Seer. Hufflepuff.
84. Seer. Hufflepuff.
----------------------------------------------------
Age | B-day: 84, January 1, 1928
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: 6", Silver Lime, Augurey feather
Description: 5'2", 102 lbs, blue eyes, white hair, various scars from life happening; Hilda has forgotten more about her scars and how they happened than most people even have scars. She is hunched from age and very thin.
Personality: Crochety!
PATRONUS: Olive Baboon
BOGGART: Nosferatu/vampires
MIRROR OF ERISED: To not be a Seer or to not See horrible things all the time
HABITS: Hilda drinks. She drinks when she is nervous, she drinks when she is alone, she drinks at get-togethers, she drinks when she is happy, and she drinks when she is bored. She always drinks. She drinks to celebrate the invincibility of her liver. She's probably going to die of cirrhosis.
PET PEEVE: Hangovers are the drink’s way of letting you know you had a dreamless night. Still, they’re annoying as all get out. People who shirk her on payment when she gives a reading are worse than hangovers, because at least hangovers means she had something to drink. Scallywags who don’t pay…well, she may get sober, and that would be bad.
STRENGTHS:
Experienced: Hilda has been around the block, literally and figuratively, quite a few times. She knows the ins and outs of London, both wizarding and muggle. She has information on almost everything and is willing to share, for a price.
Seer: In her brief moments of sobriety, Hilda has been known to have startling visions of extreme clarity. Having had them all her life, she is also skilled at interpreting the signs that accompany such things. She can read cards, Tarot and normal, crystal balls, flames, tea leaves, and palms. She is a skilled Seer and is willing to sell her services for drink.
WEAKNESSES:
Drunkard: Ninety percent of the time, Hilda is under the influence of alcohol in some quantity. She uses the drink as an escape from the otherwise disturbing and gut wrenching visions she suffers from. While she can use it to help people, her abilities are viewed more of a curse than a blessing.
Fragile: She’s old. Her body is on its downward spiral and she’s not as hearty as she used to be. Heat and cold are particularly detrimental, though a fall would most certainly cause some bones to break.
TRAITS: Hilda has mastered the art of being unseen. If she needs to be grandmotherly to get what she wants, she’ll be as sweet as pie. If being a hard old hag gets her way, then she’ll develop a backbone of steel and a disposition as hostile as her baboon patronus. She hates her so called Seer’s gift, seeing it as a curse. This self hatred has led to a grumpy disposition that looks out for herself and her three cats first and everyone else a distant second. She is self centered and self serving, feeling that she deserves it after the life she has led.
Hilda tends to avoid the rest of wizarding kind unless she needs something from them. She has found that muggles are far less interesting than witches and wizards and can often be found with a stolen shopping cart toddering around the city park with her cats. She tends to avoid conflicts, but will be hellacious if backed into a corner and given no option other than fighting. She is a survivor, but one who lives on the fringes of society. She responsible with her blood status papers, though she will often try to lose them, but she is well known by reputation. To that end, she avoids as many of the Ministry officials as she can, but knows she is eventually going to be caught and brought back to the wizarding world.
History: Hilda was a fussy child since birth and never slept well. She reported dreams of 'bad men' and would draw disturbing pictures that frightened her parents. Only at the intervention of her great aunt did her parent spare her from being institutionalized. Hilda, it was explained, was Seeing murder. She Saw other things too, but every night was violent death. It left her withdrawn and sullen during the day. Sleeping Draughts only gave her a modicum of peace. It would take several decades, but these too would stop being effective. Fortunately, though, those decades saw Hilda attending and graduating from Hogwarts and leading a celebrated career as a Seer. Her celebrity faded when she was forced to withdraw from the public eye when the sleeping potions she used stopped aiding her rest.
She became extremely tempermental and more reclusive as the years wore on. She dated but never married due to Seeing her date's death after every outing. She eventually stopped being seen in public at all. Out of work and out of touch with reality, Hilda fled to the muggle world. There, she climbed into a bottle of alcohol and has stayed there to this day. Her estate funding allows her to own a very small flat where she and her three cats sleep, but her days are spent wandering the wizard world.
Her advanced age and propensity to drink has deemed her to be a moderate risk to the security of the wizarding world. The Imperium Guard is sent out to escort her back home every few weeks when she wanders out to the muggle world. She has many friends in the Guard and is often treated like a fragile grandma. She encourages that image by crocheting baubles and trinkets for the squads despite the fact that she sees eluding them as a game.
With the government upheaval, werewolf chaos, murder spree, and kidnapping, Hilda has done her best to check out near completely. Someone is going to remember the crazy cat lady Seer, but not any sooner than Hilda intends.
Hilda's three cats, from left to right Jack(ie), Jim, and Johnnie.
