She can typically be found with simple diamond studs and a diamond in a simple setting hangs around her neck on a gold chain. Her dress is usually professional. She prefers pencil skirts and a nice top with heels, but on the weekends and evenings, she typically finds herself in jeans and a fitted t-shirt with flats. Her skin is fairly flawless, but she does have a few faded scars from her time helping at the beginning of the takeover.
PLAY-BY: Melissa George
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PATRONUS: Silver swan, fully formed.
BOGGART: Should Anne find herself before a boggart, the creature would transform itself before her very eyes to her own image. However, instead of the usually composed woman she strives to be perceived as, she would be in utter disarray, her hair a mess, her clothing torn, and obviously in a tizzy. Anne greatly fears disorder and things falling out of control.
MIRROR OF ERISED: If Anne were to stand before the Mirror of Erised, she would see herself with a mystery man and a child although she would never admit that she ever wanted that as her future.
HABITS: Though she fights the tick, whenever Anne is nervous, she will arrange things that are out of order. She also has a tendency to press her palm to her forehead and her other hand to her hip and say, "Um," or, "Uh," when thinking through things but being forced to talk. She also tends to pace in such situations.
PET PEEVE: Anne absolutely hates surprises, whether they are intentionally presented by the other person or not. She likes to feel she has a handle on things, and when things come out of left field, it makes her feel distress more than joy.
TRAITS:
• Opinionated. Anne is the sort of person who tends to have an opinion about everything, and she is not afraid to voice it. Some people would consider her a bitch for doing so, but she simply says she's being honest. The strongest driving force in her reasoning behind being that way is because, while she can respect someone else having a differing opinion from hers, she cannot stand how most people today allow the media and random other sources to think for them. In her opinion, this results in a bunch of mindless ghouls with no mind of their own. She doesn't understand what's so difficult about seeking out the facts about something and forming one's own opinion then and only then.
• Inquisitive. Anne believes this makes her ideal for her position as Head of Internal Investigations. Anne has no problem fishing for information, though she prefers to do so in her own way. Sneaking is typically not her style unless she needs to because a subject is particularly resistant. Interrogation rooms are also not her style. She prefers to question the subject of her investigations in a place where they're comfortable rather than in her office or an interrogation room. She also prefers to just naturally slip questions into conversations in the most clever way she can think of to avoid having a co-worker or other person even suspect she is investigating them.
• Stubborn. Once Anne has her mind made up about something, she generally won't sway. This goes right along with her belief that people should form opinions rather than assume them. If a person can provide her with a logical reason, or reasons, concerning why she is wrong, she will cordially thank the person and think upon it before making a decision of her own. However, the person had better ease his way into the conversation. She doesn't deal well when she feels as though she is being personally attacked.
• Guarded. Anne rarely keeps a frequent companion, friendly or otherwise. As she has grown older and marriage and family seems more and more unlikely, she has distanced herself from too many personal excursions, choosing to focus on the furtherance of her career. Part of her is afraid to have a child at this age due to the potential complications arising after age thirty and the fact she doubts she could ever marry after only a few months of knowing a person. She prefers to know a person thoroughly as her parents have always taught her marriage is for keeps. "'Til death us do part," et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Besides, if she marries someone, it's to have children, and she hardly believes it proper to have someone who is basically a stranger father her children.
HISTORY:
Growing up with Lynette and William Fernsby as parents was hardly ever dull for Anne. They were of the firm belief children must always be kept busy. They were also of the mind that children must be well educated and well behaved. They were, after all, the current generation's successors. So, starting from early on, her mother was certain to read and sing to her. As Anne aged, her mother would point to words while reading, hoping for her daughter to pick them up. By age one, her mother was using flash cards. Anne might not have been able to read everything, but she was picking up, so her mother was not discouraged from her efforts. By the age of five, Anne was reading simple chapter books. However, that was also around the time when she stopped showing much interest in books. Abhorred by such an idea, Lynette began desperately to find a way to renew her daughter's interest. Adding pictures seemed to do the trick, and soon Anne was back on Lynette's desired path for her.
Aside from teaching her daughter how to read, Lynette saw to it that Anne was involved in a myriad of activities depending upon her age. From birth, she was socialized with other children her age and status, for the Fernsbys were blood purity supremacists, on playdates. She was also entered into pageants and, eventually, given dance lessons. Both of these were something Lynette wanted for Anne more than the girl herself. However, Lynette had always held herself back from dancing and other things she viewed as fun because she was never taught how to do so, and she was determined her daughter would never experience that secret embarrassment. Pageants were for building Anne's confidence in front of people more than anything else as she was seeming, to Lynette, to be behind in developing social skills unless she was one-on-one with some other person regardless of their ages. Whether or not it worked was something Lynette was never entirely certain of. Other activities followed.
By age 11, Anne couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts. Her parents might not like that all blood statuses were accepted, but she didn't care. It meant freedom, and it meant choosing how to spend her day without her mother's constant nagging or hovering. The Sorting Hat nearly sorted her into Ravenclaw, but at her insistence, it decided upon Slytherin. A smug smirk donned the first year's face as she walked to the Slytherin table. It wasn't that she had any particular preference to a house, but the hat had been debating between the two, and she would much rather prefer to be sorted into her father's former house rather than her mother's. Being Harry Potter's second year, Anne's first year was hardly boring. When people were first found frozen, it terrified her, but as a pattern revealed itself, she began to relax, and at her reassurance, her parents thankfully chose to leave her in the school. The rest of her school years were hardly boring either.
Despite all the turmoil during her first six years, which ended with the first defeat of Voldemort during her lifetime, Anne graduated the following year and began her life on her own. Her parents, however, were all for giving their daughter freedom, as they put it. Anne felt like they were trying to kill her. When she returned home, they provided her a good amount of money as a graduation present and told her she could stay here until she could find a place to call her own and a job. Anne wasn't certain what to make of it. Upset, the eighteen-year-old stormed up to her room and cried herself to sleep. This was absurd! Parents were supposed to be there for their children.
Regardless of the absurdity of the situation, Anne began searching for her own place the next day. Three weeks later, she had a job in the auror department, and a week after that, she found her own apartment. A week after that, she was completely moved out and settled into training. It only took a few months for her to determine her specialty area, and she began her path towards a career in investigations.
In 2001 at age 20, rumors of the Dark Lord's return began to circulate. Anonymous tips were sent in from time to time yet disregarded. Still, Anne's curiosity was peaked, especially when Lucius Malfoy was broken out of Azkaban. As a trainee, she had no say in what was investigated and what was not, so she had no choice but to sit in the office and do mundane tasks rather than investigate the claims. She could recall a few years ago, after all, when some Gryffindor and Ravenclaw were featured repeatedly in the paper with claims Voldemort was alive. Rita Skeeter, another oddly missing character, had written all sorts of sordid articles on them and their claims, and she had read nearly all of them.
Despite how stupid and risky the trainee knew it was, she decided to follow a lead one October evening. She found her way to the mentioned cemetery and waited, cloaked in black and hunkered down behind a tombstone, her wand clasped tightly in hand. It was certainly dangerous to be here, after all, even if part of her was excited by the prospect of seeing the man who was such a legend and so despised by many for his attacks on muggles and muggle-borns. When voices began to be heard, Anne's heart caught in her throat, and she held her breath, daring after a few moments to peer out. She found herself face to face with Nagini. She froze, terrified. What was going to happen now? She was going to die. She knew it. Her life would be meaningless and pointless before it even had the chance to become meaningful. However, she was never met with that famed green, death-delivering blast of light. Instead, she found herself part of the Death Eaters, a mole in internal investigations. It was a wonder she didn't die of a heart attack during the few months that followed before Voldemort's final defeat at the hands of Harry Potter.
A year later, Anne found herself at full capacity as an internal affairs investigator, and six years after that, Derrin White recruited her due to her area of expertise. Of course, that took an unexpected twist when he was killed, and Trevor Williams took charge, leading them to a successful takeover of the wizarding world of the United Kingdom and Ireland. Once Masters revealed himself and Trevor was placed in charged, she found herself promoted into position of Head of Internal Investigations, a position she has happily held since then.
