Today, Minister of Magic Walter Crane released this statement in response to the attacks upon the Ministry of Magic, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding.

I first must offer my deepest condolences to those families who lost loved ones during these horrific attacks that've quite literally shaken the very foundation of the wizarding world. There is no excuse for these depraved acts, and it is my promise as the Minister of Magic that the Ministry will get to the bottom of this matter and bring those responsible to justice. I know there are many questions regarding these attacks, and who's responsible but I feel I must be totally honest and admit the facts are few. I can confirm however that the rumors of a resurgent Death Eater Movement being responsible are utterly false. Most of the surviving members of that movement are secure within the walls of Azkaban or dead. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement is confidant given the the evidence we do have that this is a new terrorist group with an expressed interest in toppling the standing order of the Wizarding world. Witness statements however suggest that some so called 'reformed' Death Eaters could've been involved somehow in these attacks or at the very least may know something. Given the security breaches within both Hogwarts and the Ministry suggests that this group has infiltrated our organizational structure on a very deep level. It was almost as if someone provided inside information to exploit the security weaknesses within the Ministry and Hogwarts. Currently Aurors are questioning all Ministry and Hogwart employees for anything of possible value.
Though most are being cooperative, some members of the Hogwarts staff have been difficult to reach, and the where abouts of one Hogwarts teacher is currently unknown. I ask and plead with Professor Casey Winslow and Evie Winslow to come in for questioning to help resolve certain unanswered questions. A third person of interest is Professor Robert Lawson, former Auror and Death Eater who has been missing since the attack and is believed to be connected with atleast some of the deaths of the prominent Lefcourt family who was visiting the school at the time. Given the record of this man, it is possible that he could be a danger though he might not.. I caution all to be careful none the less. As well in an effort to catch suspects and increase security, security checkpoints have been established throughout various areas to confirm the identity of those entering such locations as Diagon Alley. It is hoped this effort will either catch unsuspecting terrorists off guard or at the very least make them think twice about making any additional attacks against the public.. Though our enforcement officers are hard at work getting to the bottom of these attacks, the greatest assistance might come from our own citizens, believing there are those out there who may have some information, I have established an office that will take tips and information from the public on possible terrorist suspects and suspicious activities, I hope those who have information will come forward before these monsters can strike again.
In regards to the closing of Hogwarts, I felt that given the security lapses and lack of personnel that we were unable to protect the children and staff of the school at this time. I love Hogwarts with all of my heart, but I could not bare the possibility that more innocent children could die at the hands of these villains. So, it was with much regret and sorrow that I and the Ministry made the decision to close the school. But as soon as this crisis is over, School Operations will resume.
In closing, I once again offer my deepest sympathies to the the families who lost love ones, but leave them with the promise that we will bring these people to justice. You have my word.
