Casey gaped and had to agree with Jamie's comment. That was rather disappointing. "But Professor, if we are to properly learn how to defend ourselves, don't we need to actually have experience beforehand? If I hadn't, I wouldn't be here this year at all..." He bit his lip. That always managed to come up.

The Professor walked to the back of the class and stood in front of his desk. "And you are?" she asked still smiling making her wrinkles near her eyes all that more pronounced.

Casey glanced at the woman who wasn't even any taller than him when he was sitting down. "Casey Winslow, Ravenclaw," he answered, wondering if he'd just earned himself a detention or a letter to his parents.

"Hmm," she said, resting one of her plump hands on her waist. "You're one of the ones that caused such an up roar for the Ministry." She turned and walked back to the front setting her hand on the desk. "There will be no wand use, no spells, no incantations, hexes, or anything that implies the use of spells not approved by the Ministry."

Casey rolled his eyes. That would be how he was remembered by the Ministry, would it? He sighed audibly without meaning to. It would be completely pointless to take this class this year, and he doubted Dumbledore could do anything about it.

"Excuse me," Evie said, speaking up. "Then, what is the point of the class? If we're not learning how to defend ourselves against Voldemort, then how do they expect us to survive?"

Alisa watched the ongoings with confusion. Just letting students speak out? But she supposed they knew better how the class was to be run than she did, but then shouldn't the Professor know what she's doing? She glanced over at John and then back to the front of the class where Umbridge was, waiting for her answer.

"Detention and 50 points from both your houses," she said sweetly. "There will be no use of that name in this school, nor will there be any talk of disrespect towards the Ministry or any employee at the Ministry. Now if you all will read the first 3 chapters, 12 inches due tomorrow on what you have learned," she said sitting down, causing a loud squeak from the old wooden chair.

"I haven't learned anything. Sure you're quialified to be a teacher?" Jamie piped up.

Casey leaned back on the back legs of his chair, annoyed. Did she really expect them to not ask any questions about this and to not mention Voldemort when he was a large reason why this class was needed, anyway? It wasn't like she could control what they talked about out of class anyway...he had plenty to say but figured it wasn't worth getting fifty more points taken from his house and getting everyone even more mad at him than they already would be or getting a detention from this poor excuse of a teacher.

Umbridge looked at from her writing. "I dont see you reading Mr. winslow..Surly you dont want another 50 pts taken away so early in the year."

"No, Professor, but then I don't see the point to taking a defense class in which defense is not practiced. I'm trying to debate whether or not to drop the class, so please, leave me be," he answered.

Her lips curled into a wicked smile as she sat up in her chair. "Why, I do believe that you have just bought yourself a week's worth of detention, Mr. Winslow..and what would your parents think? Tsk, tsk," she said, shaking her head and writing on a pink piece of paper

"Alright, then, plenty of time for you to explain to me the point of the class," he replied, debating whether to stand and walk out or not. "And, as far as my parents, I'm of age. It really doesn't matter."
